Two litter boxes.
A lot of scooping.

A litter box doesn’t have to be exciting. It does have to be something I can live with—and something my cats will actually use. After using both the PKBD and TIUUBT since June, I’m happy with both, but there are a few differences worth knowing before spending the extra money.

Both feel sturdy and are easy to clean. The PKBD’s included scoop was a pleasant surprise. The TIUUBT taught me that my cats have very firm opinions about a little plastic door.

01 · PKBD

Easy cleaning, less lingering odor—and a great scoop

The PKBD Stainless Steel Cat Litter Box with Lid in grey feels sturdy and well made. It’s a nice size, and the grey surround looks a little nicer than a typical litter box.

What I appreciate most is how easy it is to clean. In my experience, the stainless steel doesn’t seem to hold onto odors the way plastic boxes can. That’s an observation from using it at home, rather than a promise that it eliminates every litter-box smell.

The high-sided lid also helps keep litter from getting kicked all over the floor. It doesn’t make litter disappear, but I appreciate the extra containment.

The included scoop deserves a mention

I wasn’t expecting the scoop to be one of my favorite things about a litter box, but here we are. It has a wooden handle and a metal scoop, and it feels much more durable and stable than the plastic scoops I’ve used before.

It moves through the litter easily without bending or feeling flimsy. That’s a small detail that makes a regular chore a little less frustrating.

02 · TIUUBT

A nice enclosure, once the flap came off

The TIUUBT enclosed stainless steel litter box is one of the nicest litter boxes I’ve owned. The construction feels sturdy and high quality, it’s incredibly easy to clean, and it looks much nicer than the typical plastic box.

I like the enclosure because it gives my cats a little more privacy. They also seem to appreciate having two ways to get in and out: the front entrance and the opening on top.

The front flap was a dealbreaker for my cats

When the clear flap was attached to the front entrance, my cats absolutely refused to use the box. As soon as I removed it, they started using it regularly and haven’t had any issues since.

My cats liked the enclosure. The little door? Absolutely not.

That was the difference in our house. If your cats hesitate to use this particular box, the flap is one detail worth considering. I can only speak for my cats, but removing it made this box work for us.

The price is my biggest hesitation

As happy as I am with the quality and design, this is expensive for a litter box. Similar products are available for considerably less, and I do think the price is steep.

If you don’t mind spending extra for this particular enclosure, it’s a nice upgrade from a traditional litter box. I’m happy with it, and more importantly, my cats are happy with it. I just wish it were more affordable.

where I landed

Both stayed. Here’s why.

The PKBD earns its place with easy cleaning, a sturdy feel, better odor resistance in my experience, and that excellent scoop. The TIUUBT earns its place with the enclosure and the two entrances my cats like—after I removed the flap.

I’m still using both. I’d choose based on the design your cats are comfortable with and the price you’re comfortable paying. I like these boxes, but I wouldn’t pretend an expensive litter box is a must-have for every household.
